It’s not about guns. It’s not about video games. It’s not about mental illness. It’s not about white nationalism, religious fanaticism, workplace disgruntlement, adultery, addiction, rejection, dejection or depression.
It’s about bullets.
All these other issues wouldn’t slaughter dozens of innocent people if it weren’t for bullets.
Guns don’t kill people. Bullets kill people.
Little Ricky Racist or Billy Bigot wouldn’t be able to massacre a store full of women and children if they couldn’t reload.
Ban the bullets. Axe the ammo. Problem solved.
Without a box of hollow points to fill that magazine, your gun would be nothing more than a paperweight or a doorstop. You could wear it around your neck as bling. You could fashion it into a bong, or an incense holder. You could hang it as a Christmas ornament. Or if your life depended on it, you could throw it like a boomerang, and bonk someone in the head with it.
In the United States, there are 300 million guns. But there are tens of trillions of bullets. Of course, it will take some time to deplete this gargantuan horde of murderous metal projectiles. But there it is. The root of the problem.
Bullets.
As soon as we acknowledge the actual problem that tears into flesh and destroys human tissue, we can bring this crisis to an end. Maybe not tomorrow nor next week. The factories still churn out bullets. The stores still sell boxes of bullets. And bullet lovers still love their bullets.
So, America, you can keep your guns. But we’re taking away your bullets.
